PreGame: Cowboys Chatter
The Dallas Cowboys have too many offensive weapons to be stopped, says Jean-Jacques Taylor of the Dallas Morning News.
In the Cowboys’ win over Green Bay, you saw the beauty of Dallas’ offense: They simply have too many weapons. Teams that attempt to stop the run like Philadelphia get burned with the pass. Teams like Green Bay that try to stop the pass, get burned with the run. And even if you can shut down their primary playmakers like Marion Barber, Jason Witten and Terrell Owens, the Cowboys’ complementary players are so good they can burn a defense, too.
Rick Gosselin of the Dallas Morning News says, Stephon Heyer is in over his head against Greg Ellis. And, Chris Samuels will need help to stop DeMarcus Ware.
To survive the Cowboys, you must survive the pass rush of DeMarcus Ware. The Washington Redskins have a Pro Bowl left tackle in Chris Samuels and will probably incorporate one of their three tight ends into the blocking mix on Ware. At best, the Redskins can hope for a stalemate. But optimism can’t be as great on the other side of the line, where the Redskins will ask young, inexperienced Stephon Heyer to block veteran strongside linebacker Greg Ellis.
Chris Samuels can’t handle speed and power, says Calvin Watkins of the Dallas Morning News.
If you attack Samuels with power he can get pushed into the quarterback because he lacks lower-body strength. He plays too high and sometimes gets bowled over by power guys. Speed rushers can move past Samuels because he doesn’t have fast enough footwork to keep up sometimes.
It sounds to me that the Dallas media is forgetting one critical factor about the game this week. When it comes to NFC East matchups, the only thing that matters is which team wants it more on that specific day; which team has the proper state of mind and can sustain it throughout the game.
It’s Cowboys week. Bring it on!
